Phishing Scam targeting Credit Union Members

We are asking our members to be extra vigilant with regard to phishing emails. 

It has come to our attention that members in other Credit Unions have been targeted by phishing emails.

Updated 15/01/2018 – an email with the subject “Change of Password immediately required” has been sent to members. Recipients are asked to click on a link to update their network credentials.

This is a phishing email do not click on the link.

OR

Members who have been targeted will receive an email from the email address creditunion@online.ie or one similar to this. The email will inform the member of a file named “Payment Confirmation” that’s been transferred to them through a site called WeTransfer, by what appears to be your Credit Union, and will be encouraged to click to download the files. 

This scam is designed to collect your members’ personal details with a view to gaining access to personal financial accounts.

Security advice:

  • Do not click on a link or open any attachments on suspicious emails.
  • Do not reply to the email from within the email received.
  • Monaghan Credit Union will never ask you to provide personal details via email.
